Shirt of Ultimate Disambiguation

08/9/2009 14:30

no

NO. It’s a pretty powerful statement. [So is, "YES." But that's for a different time and a different T-shirt.] ThinkGeek offers a little help to anyone who has difficulty saying “no,” and a little joy to anyone who finds it easy. As soon as I saw this tee, I immediately thought of Milo’s T-shirt on The Oblongs, which is even referenced on the product page. The typeface is different, of course…and it’s a good thing, too. I’ve wanted a T-shirt like this ever since watching that show back in the day, but didn’t care much for the way Milo’s shirt looked. When ThinkGeek made this NO. T-shirt — the proper title of which is the Shirt of Ultimate Disambiguation — it’s almost like they asked me how I would like it to be designed. Because this is it.

Reduce Reuse Retweet

07/10/2009 10:25

rrr

I’ve been meaning to post a Twitter-themed tee for a while, now [since I spend quite a bit of time on it]. I finally found one I really like: the Reduce Reuse Retweet T-shirt by ThinkGeek. Usually, I’ve got a pretty close eye on ThinkGeek tees because I’m a huge fan of theirs. But I actually came to this shirt by way of…Twitter! How fitting. I don’t really look for scoops (firsties) so I wouldn’t be surprised if this tee has made its rounds on the internet already… but as far as I can tell it’s still pretty new. Scott Beale posted it on Laughing Squid today and sent a tweet out about it — which is how I came to discover it. The recycle logo is a powerful one. It was re-purposed for this tee with appropriate colors and typography. It also makes a lot of sense. So much of what’s on Twitter consists of retweets…which, if you’re unfamiliar with Twitter and the lingo associated with it, is exactly what it sounds like: a recycled [or perhaps "repeated"] tweet. It’s how viral news and information spreads as quickly as it does on the site. So if you’re on Twitter, remember the three ‘R’s: Reduce Reuse Retweet. It would also be awesome if you follow me. :)

Prefectionist

06/17/2009 8:00

prefectionist

This Prefectionist T-shirt is perfect for the imperfect perfectionist in us all. (Or is it just me?) Even the most meticulous of us, who pride ourselves on being perfectionists, are prone to making mistakes. It’s part of the human condition. The important thing to do is NOT beat yourself up for those mistakes. It’s perfectly ok to be imperfect. ThinkGeek knows this…and they’re smarter than anyone I know. Plenty of folks are perfectionists, but it takes a lot more to be a Prefectionist. Wrap your head around that!

I’m with Genius

05/30/2009 2:12

genius

Sometimes I surprise myself. I never thought I’d be into any of those “I’m with…” T-shirts but here I am blogging about one. This one is different, though. “I’m with…” is usually followed by something crass like “stupid” or “dumb” and an arrow pointing left (or is it right?) but the geniuses over at ThinkGeek have put a positive spin on it. The I’m with Genius tee is a positive affirmation of sorts. The theory is that if you are perceived as smart by others and (perhaps more importantly) yourself, then you are — ipso facto — smart. I’d love to test this theory out…though my ego will undoubtedly take a hit when someone inevitably asks, “Is that supposed to be ironic?” To be fair, I suppose if you were a real genius* then wearing this tee would just make you look pompous. On the other hand, if anyone’s allowed to be pompous, it should probably be a genius…which only reinforces the affirmation that you are one. So, in conclusion, this theory seems like a pretty good one to me. Also: you don’t need to be standing next to anyone in order for it to make sense.

*I thought this would make another excellent segue…into this post and this post. I know…I’m crushing it with the segues lately. I’m with Genius.

Uncertain About Quantum Mechanics

03/17/2009 13:04

indeterminacy

Probably the geekiest shirt I’ve posted so far, Uncertain About Quantum Mechanics highlights Werner Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle. I know very little about quantum physics so it would do very little good for me to try explaining it here. But the gist is this: uncertainty is the only thing you can be certain of (…at least with regard to certain physical quantities on the atomic level). I’ve always been fascinated by quantum mechanics; this tee would serve as a solid indication of that. I should probably read up on it a bit before buying this T-shirt and wearing it out in public… or maybe not since it’s clear that I’m uncertain about quantum mechanics in the first place.

Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes

03/2/2009 0:42

watchmentee

ThinkGeek produced this tee – and of all the Watchmen tees I’ve seen so far, this is my hands down favorite. Yeah, you could say it’s just a type tee… and the type is stacked sideways, which I am not really a fan of. But it’s true to the graphic novel (…which, from what I’ve heard, is more than can be said of the upcoming movie adaptation). Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes is a quote by the Roman poet Juvenal (generally translated as “Who Watches The Watchmen”…) and it’s printed at the end of the graphic novel, just as it is on this T-shirt. I was going to wait until this Friday to feature it, in order to coincide with the movie’s release date. Clearly, I couldn’t wait very long… and I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to wait to get my hands on one, either.

Steampunk Skeleton

01/24/2009 1:03

steampunkskeleton

Skeleton (or ribcage) tees are not my thing. That’s what I used to say…until I saw this Steampunk Skeleton T-shirt available through ThinkGeek. If you’re not familiar with steampunk, you can read about it here (links to a wikipedia article, so take it with a grain of salt). Needless to say: I’m a fan of the steampunk movement… and this tee might just end up being my first steampunk-related purchase. Thanks to the geeks – geniuses, really – over at ThinkGeek!

Update: I forgot to mention that this T-shirt is currently on sale!
