Liar, Liar, Earth on Fire

Today, as it turns out, is Blog Action Day…an annual event that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day with the intention of raising awareness and triggering a global discussion. This year’s theme is Climate Change. With that in mind, I present to you the Liar, Liar, Earth on Fire T-shirt by Eloi Collective. It’s a bit ambiguous, but purposefully so. It was meant to address both sides of the global warming debate. For that reason, it is hardly a sound argument and one that probably won’t win you any favor with either side. But I believe its purpose is not to sway those looking at it one way or the other; instead, it gives one pause to think about where he or she stands in the debate. Anything that gets people thinking is [usually] a good thing. 5% of this product’s sales to the Sierra Club, America’s oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization.

Liking the post and the shirt. I agree – shirts that get people to think are awesome.

Type Micah | October 15, 2009 # 12:58 pmI’ve been checking out a number of t-shirt related blogs today and yours is the only one I see even talking about Blog Action Day. Between the many opportunities to make a statement with a t-shirt, I’m glad that ATshirtBlog participated. What I wish more people knew is that t-shirts are not at all environmentally friendly. If the tee is cotton, then more than 713 gallons of water are needed just to grow the cotton. An additional 8 gallons is needed to dye the shirt. Of course, tees are just the tip of the iceberg, the textile industry is a major water and air polluter. That’s the message I’d like to see more of. Because without education and a demand for more sustainable clothing, no one will make it for us.
Robin Bertelsen | October 15, 2009 # 7:46 pmThanks for that, Robin. Pretty eye-opening. I see that A Lot To Say is doing some pretty innovative stuff with regards to T-shirts; I hope more companies follow suit. Keep up the great work!
