Johno over at I Love Typography is about to release this lovely Helvetica T-shirt. It’s not out just yet, but I’ll be keeping my eyes glued to the iLT shop awaiting its arrival. Let’s talk about how fresh this tee is. First, it’s in Helvetica. [Contrary to what my regular readers might think, Helvetica is not my favorite typeface. I actually can't bring myself to pick just one favorite; I have many. But yes...Helvetica is one of them.] Second, it says “Die Neue Haas Grotesk” on it — that’s Helvetica’s original name. Third, it’s being put out by iLT which is one of the greatest typographical resources around. Each reason is reason enough to own this. With the abundance of Helvetica T-shirts that have been pushed out there recently (partly due, I’m sure, to Gary Hustwit’s documentary on the face), I’m not ashamed to say that the third reason listed is my biggest.
